Mr. Miller received his Bachelor of Arts (Cum Laude) in Liberal Studies from Humboldt State University in 1996 and in 1999 he graduated from Baylor Law School with his J.D. degree. Mr. Miller is currently licensed to practice in Texas and the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas.
Mr. Miller’s career did not originally begin in law. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Miller was a two-time all-state high school football player in California and had a goal to be a player in the NFL. He accepted an athletic scholarship to play football at the University of Southern California (USC), but quickly realized that football was not in his future. The rest of his undergraduate days were defined by transferring his prior zeal for football towards learning.
Mr. Miller’s interest in law comes from more than one place. First, he saw that the law of a particular political entity is a true reflection of what that society values. The fact that the law is a reflection of culture and morals fascinates him. Second, he observed that the law affects everyone at all times. The law has a real impact on the life of ordinary people. Mr. Miller chose to be a lawyer because he wanted a career where he could have a lasting positive impact on people’s lives.
During law school Mr. Miller learned the importance of courtesy, honesty, attention to detail, humility and dedication from a trusted professor who demonstrated that one can be assertive without being confrontational. It is here that he also learned to balance personal interests with professional obligations—all with a sense of humor and a smile.
In his spare time, Mr. Miller enjoys spending time with his young daughter and reading biographies of great people from the past. He also loves travelling and finds places which have natural beauty like Yellowstone and Yosemite very enjoyable.
